DxEmu - Preview

Just to remind you, DxEmu (formely DDrawEmu), is the DirectDraw/X emulator I'm currently working on. I've managed to implement the OpenGL-based renderer, and here is first preview:

DxEmu Preview

It's only a two screenshots of main menu, but as you can see, it's running in windowed mode, which is one of the most requested mods for fullscreen-only games, like Arcanum :) It's also possible (thru config file) to force any windowed game to run in fullscreen, and force display resolution, window geometry, etc.

Now I'm going to implement support for palettes, color keys and other misc stuff. Hopefully, I'll have it finished before end of this week.

Edit: Open those screenshots in new window, if you want to see them in full resolution.

NeonThat's great, I didn't expect that you finish it as fast as he works with WorlEd and in other games?

It's not finished, yet :) A lot of hard work will be needed before it can be marked as "finished". I'm testing it on Arcanum, and several other games, but only with Arcanum, I can see some visual results, because the game won't crash :)

I've also tested it on WorldEd, and yes, it's "working". There is a one problem (with GDI cooperation) I need to fix, before I can release it. Also, I have to finish the shader implementation today, and tomorrow, I'll be implementing support for color palettes... so it's hard to tell, when it'll be fully working with Arcanum.

Goten22Hey, you said that Arcanum is running in 16bit. With this patch you can run it in 24bit, but what it really does. Some comparison maybe? Is graphic, thanks to this, better?

Short answer: Yes, it is. Longer answer: Click on desktop with right mouse button, click on "Screen Resolution", then "Advanced settings", and finally on "List All Modes" button. There, you can set 16bit color depth to your monitor. Do it, and check if you see any difference.

Many people wouldn't notice any difference between the two, especially in you show them only one picture of one color mode. Try to take a screenshot before you change the display mode, and after, and compare them side by side.

Cheers! :)
